Physical Abuse

 

Physical abuse includes any physical act intended to control, harm, injure or inflict physical pain on another person. Physical abuse may consist of just one incident or it may happen repeatedly. Behaviours can range from spitting on someone to committing murder. Examples include:

  • spitting;
  • pinching;
  • pushing;
  • restraining;
  • carrying;
  • grabbing;
  • twisting fingers or arms;
  • slapping;
  • pulling hair;
  • punching;
  • kicking;
  • burning or scalding;
  • biting;
  • scratching;
  • beating with an object;
  • poking or cutting with a sharp instrument;
  • choking or strangling;
  • attacking with a weapon; and/or
  • murder.
